Goin Fishin by Don Fine
I awoke early and sit at the front of the cabin on the
rock. The sun casts its first rays across the far
hillside and the first breezes make their traditional
path down the lake from the north. A pair of mergansers
beat their way to the south and a raven calls in the
distance. In the trees above, red squirrels chirp while
stirring the silent with falling cones that alert me to
the start of another fleeting day. The mist lifting off
the water reminds me that the fish of the night will
retreat to their refuge of depth and I quicken in
spirit. The innate desire to join my heritage is in
pursuit of the water dwellers.
Hunger and thirst have I not, for I am goin fishin.
